WASHINGTON – The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace announced today the election of Robert Zoellick, the former president of the World Bank and U.S. trade representative to its Board of Trustees.
“Bob is a thinker and doer of the highest order,” said Harvey V. Fineberg, chairman of the board. “His wide-ranging experience at the highest levels of diplomacy, trade, business, and international development will make an enormous contribution to our board, and I look forward very much to his partnership.”
Robert B. Zoellick served as president of the World Bank Group from 2007 to 2012. He previously served as the U.S. trade representative and then later the deputy secretary of state during the George W. Bush administration. From 1985 to 1993, Zoellick served as counselor to the secretary of the treasury and under secretary of state, as well as the White House deputy chief of staff. He is currently the chairman of AllianceBernstein, a global investment management firm, assists Brunswick Geopolitical as senior counselor, and serves on the Board of Temasek, Singapore’s Sovereign Wealth Fund. Bob also is a senior fellow at the Belfer Center at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Bob’s intellect, creativity, and skill were indispensable during that period and I’ve continued to admire his many talents ever since,” said Carnegie President William J. Burns. “From [Germany and] China to Sudan and trade and global development, Bob has been an engine of ideas and action. I feel very fortunate to be able to rely on Bob’s wisdom as we navigate another transformative moment for the world and for Carnegie.”
